Questions restoration owners ask about marketing

Straight answers for water, fire and mold restoration company owners on emergency search, reviews, Google Ads, lead aggregators, the benchmark data and the free 14-day trial.

How many Google reviews does a restoration company need?

Enough to beat the three listings next to you in the map pack for "water damage restoration" in your city. Across 18,405 restoration listings the median is 16 reviews, 41.3% have fewer than 10, and the top tenth sits at 128 or more. In a metro the map pack is usually won by companies past 100, and only 13.7% are there. One review per completed loss, asked for at the final walkthrough, gets a two-truck company there in about a year. See the reviews guide.

Are lead aggregators worth it for water damage jobs?

Sometimes, as a supplement, never as the plan. A shared water damage lead runs $150 to $400 and is sold to three or four companies, so the homeowner is already getting a call from someone else while you dial. Exclusive leads cost more and still arrive after the search is over. The companies that stop depending on aggregators are the ones that win the search directly: a strong profile, Local Services Ads, and a phone answered on the first ring at any hour.

What does a water damage lead cost on Google Ads?

In most metros a tracked emergency call from Search costs $90 to $250, and clicks on "water damage restoration near me" run $25 to $70. Local Services Ads, where available for the category, charge per lead at $60 to $180 and let you dispute wrong numbers and out-of-area calls. The accounts that lose money run broad match 24 hours a day and send clicks to a home page with no phone number above the fold. The Google Ads guide has the campaign structure that avoids that.

Should I list my company as open 24 hours?

If you answer at 3 a.m., yes, and say so everywhere. Only 62.3% of restoration listings show 24-hour availability and 26.3% list no hours at all. Google filters "open now" searches by listed hours, so a profile with no hours can vanish from a midnight search. If you do not actually answer overnight, do not claim it. A missed 2 a.m. call that promised 24-hour service turns into a one-star review.

Do plumber and insurance agent referrals still matter if I do online marketing?

Yes, and online marketing makes them work better. A plumber who finds a slab leak refers you once. The homeowner then looks you up on Google before letting you in the door. If the profile has four reviews and no photos, the referral dies there. Reviews, a real website and a clean profile are what make a referral stick. The two channels are not in competition.

Do I really need a website if I have a Google Business Profile?

The data says yes. Restoration companies with a website have a median of 22 reviews; companies without one have 2. 14.8% of listings have no site. The website is where Google and the AI answer engines confirm you are licensed, certified, insured and actually do mold, not just carpet drying. It is also where an adjuster checks you out. See the website guide.

How do I market during a slow stretch?

Restoration has two slow windows in most markets: late spring after the thaw and early fall before the first freeze. Use them for the work that compounds: mold inspections for past water customers, a reconnect campaign to plumbers and property managers, and a review push on the last 90 days of jobs. The slow season guide has a week-by-week plan.

Can I show up when someone asks ChatGPT or Google AI who to call?

You can, and the inputs are mostly things you control: a complete Google profile, a website that states your services and cities in plain text, consistent name, address and phone everywhere, and reviews that mention the specific job (sewage backup, burst pipe, attic mold). The AI engines quote sources that are easy to read and consistent. The AI search guide walks through it.

Where does the benchmark data come from?

From public Google Business Profile listings under the water damage restoration and fire damage restoration categories, pulled monthly for every US state, deduplicated by place, and summarized. We keep review counts, ratings, website links, listed hours and location. No customer data, no logins. The current pull covers 18,405 listings across 51 states. The method is on the about page.

Why is the median so much lower than the average?

Because the distribution is lopsided. The mean of 52.1 reviews is pulled up by a small number of franchise locations and large regional companies, while 15.4% of listings have no reviews at all. The median of 16 describes the typical company. Compare yourself to the median and the 90th percentile, not the mean.

What is included in the free 14-day trial?

Any one service on the site, set up and run in your own accounts for 14 days: Google Ads, Meta ads, AI search work, your Google profile, a website rebuild, social, review generation, missed-call text-back, email and SMS, bookkeeping, cold-call appointment setting or reporting. Ad spend, where a service uses it, goes to Google or Meta on your own card. The setup and the work are free.

What happens after 14 days?

You get a plain summary of what was done and what came in: calls, leads, reviews, profile actions, whatever the service produces. Then you decide. If you keep going it is month to month at a flat rate quoted before the trial starts. If you stop, everything we built stays in your accounts. Nothing is held hostage and nothing renews on its own.

Is a card required to start?

No. The trial starts with a text or a call to (385) 855-2416 and a 20-minute setup call. No card is taken at any point during the 14 days. The only money that moves is ad spend, if the service you pick uses ads, and that goes directly to the ad platform from your own payment method.

Pick anything we do. We run it for your restoration company for two full weeks at no cost, then you decide. No card, no contract, nothing to cancel.
